Just Call Me Bob Ross

So do you remember when I talked about my new years resolution to paint? And how my in-laws said they would do it with me, but I doubted if they were serious so I painted with Henry just to check that off my resolution list? Well I never should have doubted my in-laws dedication. They were all over the painting party plan! Last weekend when the South Carolina family was in town we actually set up a little painting workshop in my mother in laws basement and we tackled a Bob Ross painting!
Fall 2012

My Bob Ross painting kit with the example of what we are suppose to have as a final product in thirty little minutes....

Blair and Nicole are ready. Not sure this could be completed in 30 minutes, but ready to try!

Blank canvas' that will be ART in just a few minutes! (according to the directions)
Fall 2012
This has no shot of taking us only 30 minutes if we keep playing with the camera with the blank canvas forgotten in the background.

We got off to a rough start because I opened the kit and realized they were oil based paints. That is like... something I REALLY should have noticed before the moment we started painting. GIANT PAINTING PARTY FAIL.  But we pushed on because THERE IS NO TURNING BACK ON THE PAINTING PARTY PLAN!

Here is me with the start of my mountain. Not too shabby! (it goes down hill from here)
Fall 2012
So our painting party... it took longer than 30 minutes.Quite a bit longer to tell the truth.  And not everyone completely finished their painting, but they were still around for moral support!

Like in the moment when I put on the little path on the right side and my mother in law said 'Well... it was really going so well until you added the path..."  SUPPORT!

She was tickled. I was tickled.  It was all around awesome.  I love my family.

Here are the three of us that completed our paintings at the party! Pretty good, right?

And here's mine, awkward path and all! I think it looks much better in real life. I am actually REALLY happy with it for a first try with the wrong tools. I am excited to try again at my own pace from home. And now I feel even better about giving myself a check mark on New Years day.

Thanks family!!  I am lucky to have you.

  1. Your party looks ridiculously fun! I'm laughing along with you as I view the pics. But wait! You even have something to show for it. No way is there any paint party fail. Thanks for sharing these great moments with us. Are you going to frame and hang your paintings?
